libccfits-dev software package provides static library for I/O with FITS format data files, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libccfits-dev
libccfits-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libccfits-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libccfits-dev *
You will get with libccfits-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
